Points, badges and perks

Three kinds of rewards, paid once, kept in a ledger, and shown by your site.

Finishing a quest should be worth something. Luk Quest has three kinds of rewards, and each answers a different question for the player.

Points: how much have I earned?

Points are a currency: XP, coins, stars, whatever fits your product. A project can have several. Every change is an entry in a ledger with its reason (a quest, an award rule, a correction, or a manager's adjustment), so a balance can always be explained. Amounts are exact decimals, never rounded by accident.

Badges: what have I achieved?

A badge is a collectible a player earns once: Early bird, Big spender, 100-day streak. Badges have a rarity and an image of your choice; your site shows them however it likes.

Perks: what can I do now?

A perk is a named benefit your site checks, like free-shipping or priority-support, for good or for a number of days. Luk Quest keeps who has which perk and until when. Your site decides what it unlocks.

Who gets the reward

Each reward in a quest has a rule:

  • Every finisher gets it.
  • The first N players to finish get it, counted fairly even when many finish at once.
  • Leaderboard places: when the quest's window (or round) ends, finishers are ranked by time or by a metric total, and the top places are paid. For rankings that run on their own, see leaderboards and leagues.

Every reward has a source, like quest 12, version 3, player 42, so it's paid once however many times events are retried. Managers can still grant or take back points, badges and perks by hand, always with a reason recorded.

Points can also come straight from events, without a quest: see award rules.
